Our People

Suzanne Hughes - Area Manager

I joined Wellburn Care Homes Ltd working as a care assistant at Eighton Lodge at the age of 22. I was made to feel very welcome and I was impressed by the training that I received from day one. After being a care assistant for a year I was promoted to team leader.

I particularly enjoyed more interaction with our residents families and working alongside care professionals such as doctors and district nurses. After two years in the team leader role, it felt a natural progression to take on the role of deputy manager when the position became available. In this role I became more involved in the day to day running in the management of the home. After two years I was able to further my career when the position of Home manager became available with Dorothy’s promotion to area manager, I was encouraged to apply for the post, and subsequently was promoted to manager of Eighton Lodge in the Summer of 2000.

As manager I enjoyed ensuring that each and every resident at Eighton Lodge had the best quality of life. After five years I was promoted to Area manager where I am now responsible for supporting four homes and a day centre.

I have felt very valued as a member of the Wellburn Care Homes team.

Dorothy Savile - Area Manager

I joined Wellburn Care Homes Ltd, part time as a senior care assistant at Whorlton Grange in Westerhope. I enjoyed working with our residents and other members of the care team. After a year I was promoted to Deputy Manager I relished the extra responsibility. After two years I was asked if I would like to be relocated to Wellburn Care Homes Ltd recent acquisition Eighton Lodge as Deputy Manager, supporting the manager implementing WCH’s care practises. After two years I was promoted to the position of Manager of Eighton Lodge.

In this position I enjoyed ensuring that the home was maintained to the high levels of care standards and that the environment was a true ‘home’ for the residents, after four years I was promoted to Senior Manager, I retained the position of Manager at Eighton Lodge and supported the manager of recently acquired Glenholm.

I am now an area manager for Wellburn and support six managers ensuring that care standards are maintained and that all aspects of home are to the high standards that we expect. I have enjoyed my time working with Wellburn so much, that I cannot believe I have been a member of the team for 18 years.

Kelly Watt - Home Manager

I joined Wellburn in 1989 working in the kitchen at Eighton Lodge at weekends. From then until now I have enjoyed real career success, and promotions, having worked as a carer, team leader, and deputy manager until my promotion in 2005 to Home Manager at Glenholme. Ive also become a mother and returned to work! My job today involves everyone in the Home - the residents, staff, families and visitors. I balance the needs of 31 full and part time employees, working different shifts, along with the health and welfare of our 37 residents. I also have to arrange doctors visits, and often medications, for our residents and of course a sympathetic ear is needed from time to time. My latest promotion in 2009 means that I now audit the entire Group for our ISO 9000 accreditation, so Im travelling around our various homes helping our staff to have the right processes in place.

I've worked for Wellburn for over 20 years, and have always had the opportunity to improve my personal skills and qualifications, and been rewarded with new challenges. That's what I like about this job and Wellburn in general - senior managers focus on solving problems, and making sure all the staff care for our residents in the best way possible. I also love the fact that once a year all the managers get together with their teams for a competition - last year was Wellburns Got Talent thoroughly enjoyed by all !! See the Winter 2009 Newsletter for some photos!
