Wellburn Care Homes has been short-listed for a prestigious national design award following the £1.8 million redevelopment of its Garden House care home in Spittal, near Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The company is one of only three finalists in the category of Best Redevelopment Project in the 2012 Healthcare Design Awards.
This recognises the work undertaken by Wellburn to redevelop Garden House, a property it purchased in 2008 and then spent the next two years refurbishing.
The Healthcare Design Awards, organised by UK property consultancy Pinders, seek to acknowledge the contribution made by designers, architects and the owners of care homes and hospitals to the well-being and quality of life for those in their care.
A panel of judges will visit Garden House over the next few months and the category winner will be unveiled at an awards lunch to be held at the Lords Cricket Ground in London on 22nd March. For being a finalist, Wellburn will receive £500 payable to a nominated charity.
The redevelopment of Garden House involved modernising and refurbishing existing bedrooms and adding three new extensions, including a three-storey building which took the number of bedrooms from 24 to 36. A major landscaping programme was also undertaken to allow residents to benefit from living so close to the sea.
